Today was Goodwood test day. This is where would-be racers with totally unsuitable cars turn up to hope upon hope that they will be chosen for the St Mary's Trophy at the forthcoming Goodwood Revival. I am fortunate to own a MK7 Jaguar that was created just for the Revival.
That is another story, but basically this lovely old lady is a cheap ticket into the most prestigious motoring event in the world. Most other cars in the Revival programme are expected to be the original example from those old days with specific racing history and because they have that pedigree expect to pay up to £5m. Some owners don't get to drive but instead have to watch a famous but geriatric pilot struggle round the track with their precious specimen. Rowan Atkinson owns an original lightweight racing Mk7 (magnesium body) but that cost him just £55,000 or so. My 1.75 tonne example was a lot less. I've got my fingers crossed.
Sorry not a joke anywhere!
You petrol heads will be able to name the rest of the cars in the line except, I wager, the orange one!

If it wasn't so big I'd say it was a Goggomobil. Cue Diplo.
Goodwood. I desparately want to go, and if it's any use I'll get my three vintage Castrol Oil jugs out for the day. I know that guests have to dress up appropriately, so I am prepared to get my stilettos and Kayser Bonder silk stockings out. If that helps at all.
And if it's not an insolent question, why have you got Ban-the-Bomb stickers on the headlamps?
Tatra?
Full marks Justin. I was going to give the spare ticket to Unmitigated Ashley but perhaps you should have it?
Peter, I've worried about those headlamps. I can't believe you haven't been. You will need hospital treatment you will overdose so much on pure nostalga
Tom. The Mk7 looks tremendous. Are those Rudge alloys? Looks like the weather was a bit iffy for qualifying. Tricky through St Mary's I'd wager.
Hope you've made the cut, if only to see Peter in his heels, again. Pimm's anyone?
Well spotted bro. I was going to suggest Borgward Isabella. Had to be East European sitting up so high. I.m surprised Peter still has those heals after last time....
Justin,
The wheels were also special to the three MK7's when they were created. Jack Brabham drove my one (before my ownership)first time out and they were worried the steels might collapse. They are a bit Victorian in their design. Very thick alloy which acted as a wonderful heat soak-as soon as you stopped the seals melted. They have since been drilled, which helps.
Sorry to have missed such a great day - I am sure you drove particularly well without a co-pilot to annoy you! Roll on the Revival!
Lisanne.....hellooo! Can you bring my card reader tonight? I need a good digital camera for this blog
My seals are always melting, but I've put it down to the fact that I'm now ninety-three.
